Dr. Forgosh is one of less than 10% of dentists in this nation who have studied the Concept of Complete Dentistry. Developed by Dr. Peter Dawson, the Concept of Complete Dentistry is taught by the finest dentists in the world with a mission to make good dentists even better. This approach involves careful screening to detect signs of dental problems before symptoms appear. This conservative approach helps patients enjoy better oral health, controlled costs and improved smiles.
Dr. Forgosh and the Dawson Academy
Dr. Forgosh studied at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, where he was named a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the most prestigious honor society for dentists. After completing his residency at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Dr. Forgosh pursued additional studies with the Dawson Academy, focusing on aesthetic dentistry, occlusal disease treatment and solving complex dental problems.
Dr. Forgosh has dedicated countless hours to learn how to care for patients at the highest ethical and professional level. A primary source of his education has been the Dawson Academy, a postgraduate educational and clinical research facility, committed to the advancement of dentistry. Now an ambassador for the Dawson Academy and the leader of the New York City Study Club, Dr. Forgosh helps current students get the most out of this transformational experience. He also has the great honor of being the past President of the Dawson Academy Alumni Association, where he hosted a monthly webinar series for dentists that is viewed around the globe. He is one of only a handful of dentists out of the tens of thousands practicing to be chosen for these positions.
Overview of Dawson Academy
Dawson Academy was created by Dr. Peter Dawson, widely considered the most influential dentist to ever practice the profession for his work to develop what he called the Concept of Complete Dentistry. More than 30,000 dentists have worked with Dawson Academy to improve their training.
Dawson Academy encourages students to take continuing education courses and to pursue lifelong learning. Students who work with Dawson Academy learn to promote healthy smiles while meeting high ethical standards. Dentists learn to ask themselves whether they would perform a treatment on themselves when evaluating whether to offer a treatment to patients.
Every Dawson Academy dentist receives training in jaw joints, bite problems, and conditions related to the masticatory system so they become able to solve complex cases which go beyond the purview of traditionally trained dentists.
Dawson Academy’s curriculum offers courses at four phases of training:
- Phase 1: Dental professionals learn about dental occlusion and the masticatory system as well as the professional philosophies of Dawson Academy. In addition, during this phase, dentists study how the proprioceptive input pf the lower anterior teeth, TM joint, muscles, upper anterior teeth, lower posterior teeth and upper posterior teeth work together.
- Phase 2: During this phase, dentists learn about recordkeeping, comprehensive examinations and restorative procedures. Dentists will also learn about treatment, including reshaping, repositioning, restoring and surgical options and alternatives for patients. Professionals learn how to treat and diagnose consistently.
- Phase 3: Dentists in this phase will learn about occlusal therapy and equilibration as well as about anterior teeth restoration and other esthetic concepts.
- Phase 4: After this phase, a graduate of the Dawson Academy will have the problem-solving resources to address complex dental problems, including deep overbites, significant occlusal wear, anterior open bites, overjet and Class III malocclusions, and Temporo Mandibular Dysfunction (TMJ problems).
After studying along with these classes, dentists can achieve predictable and sustainable results, even in cases involving complex dental needs. Dentists receive the know-how to use the most current medical technology and treatment options.
