Study Finds Link Between Poor Oral Hygiene Habits, Hypertension. MarketWatch (7/28) reports that a study by Korean researchers finds that poor oral hygiene habits may increase the risk of hypertension. The study, published in the July 2015 issue of the Journal of Periodontology, examined data between 2008 and 2010 from nearly 20,000 individuals in the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, finding “ periodontal disease and hypertension may be linked by way of inflammation and blood pressure elevation.”
