I am relocating with my family out of the Allentown, PA area for my job. My family loves coming to you and really looks forward to our cleaning appointments. How should I go about finding a good dentist outside of the Lehigh Valley?
This is a great question. I find that the best dentists are the ones who are committed to life-long learning, so I would look for a dentist who is affiliated with a high quality continuing education program. The very best of these is The Dawson Academy. When a patient of mine is relocating from Allentown to a new location that keeps them from traveling back to the Lehigh Valley, I use findadawsondentist.com to help them find a Dawson Academy faculty member or Scholar nearby.
If that doesn't work, the next best option is to call two or three local periodontists and ask for the names of three high quality dentists in the area. Periodontists inspect the work of restorative dentists closely and have a very good idea of who they would refer their friends and family to. If all three periodontists give you the same name, I would call that office first. Then call the rest of the doctors to get a feel for how you are treated on the phone. I have found that this can be a good indicator of how you will be treated in the office.
